Speaking the Speech.

The Art of Auditioning Monologues

This class, taught by Soulpepper founding member and Stratford Festival veteran Michael Hanrahan, focuses on breaking down the intimidation of language and instead putting it to use to reveal the emotional reality within each piece. The goal of these sessions will be to create immediacy and freshness with the material no matter how familiar or famous a particular speech may be- so that with every monologue the actor feels they are no longer “performing” but rather revealing a true part of themselves and telling their own story.

Class will cover text analysis, overcoming memorization problems. Monologues will be recorded for personal use. Everyone gets up every week. Class limited to 8 actors.
